Japanese Chiyogami Paper is hand silk-screen printed following a thousand year old Japanese tradition. Colours are applied in individual layers, meaning the production process is a work of art in its self!
Chiyogami, which means thousand generation (Chiyo) paper (Gami) was developed in Japan between 1603 and 1867. The fashionable Kimono textile patterns inspired paper makers to reproduce these patterns on paper for use on dolls and tiny household items. The patterns used usually include highly meaningful imagery, such as Cranes for long life and Plum Blossom for longevity.
